Material sources[editovat]

Tech Specs[editovat]

  • 40W CO2 laser
  • Engraving Area: 18" x 12" (457 x 305 mm)
  • Maximum Material Thickness: 4" (102 mm)
  • Product website

Fire Warning[editovat]

  • Keep the area clear
  • Be prepared with a fire extinguisher
  • Use Air Assist
  • Use caution when vector cutting
  • Clean the laser

Notes[editovat]

  • In raster mode: vector lines that you want to engrave rather than cut should be set 0.006” (0.152 mm) or greater line thickness
  • Set any cut lines to 0.001” (.0254 mm) (vector mode)
  • Frequency: The number of laser pulses that the laser fires per inch of travel. Lower frequency rates are helpful for products like wood. High frequencies are useful on materials like acrylic.
  • Reset key will move the carriage back to its Home Position
  • Set Home: 1. Press X/Y Off, 2. Press Go, 3. Move the lens assembly by hand, 4. Press Set Home 5. Reset key will move the carriage to its park position
  • Resetting Home Position: press the Maint key. Press the down arrow to see 1. Restore Home. Press the Go key
  • Resolution Settings: 300 DPI is useful when engraving materials such as glass, marble, plastic and other items that don’t benefit from the engraved dots being close together. 400 DPI This resolution value is ideal for many applications. It combines very good image quality with fast engraving times. Many users like 400 DPI for all of their work. 600 DPI When really fine detail or overall excellent results are required, most users choose 600 DPI.
  • Landscape or Portrait: Portrait only if there are white spaces. For wood travel along the grains.
  • Cleaning the Optics (the lens and mirror): About once a week. To clean the optics, use a high-quality cotton swab moistened with the optics cleaner supplied in the accessory kit. (Never use Alcohol or Hardware grade Acetone, they contain impurities which can damage the optics in your machine.
  • Dithering can improve engraving of raster images (e.g. Stucki mode)
  • Popular use for color mapping is to adjust the order a series of objects engraved or cut
  • Smoke for the the engraving can stain the edges of the engraved surface. If you don't want that cover the surface with masking tape to protect it.

Acrylic[editovat]

  • Cast acrylic is ideal for engraving because it turns a frosty white color when engraved. While it can be cut with a laser, it will not give you flame-polished edges.
  • Extruded acrylic will cut cleanly and smoothly and will have a flame-polished edge when laser cut. But when it is engraved, instead of a frosted look you will have a clear engraving.
  • Most acrylic is engraved on the backside to produce a look-through effect from the front surface.
  • Engrave the acrylic at a high speed and low power
  • Use the Vector Cutting Table
  • Cutting acrylic is usually best achieved with relatively slow speed and high power
  • Setting the focus distance at the center of your acrylic sheet will produce better edge quality than focusing on top of the acrylic sheet

Glass[editovat]

  • 300 DPI, 80% Grayscale, Jarvis Dithering,
  • Wet sheet of newspaper or paper towel helps with heat dissipation and improves the engraving. (apply a thin coat of liquid dish soap over the area to be engraved. This will dissipate the heat when engraving.)

Wood[editovat]

  • It is sometimes advantageous to apply a cover of masking or transfer tape to the surface before cutting. The masking tape will reduce residue buildup on the top surface of the wood surrounding the cut line.
  • Reduce the frequency settings in the driver to around 20 for a better laser-cut edge. The laser will pulse with less frequency, reducing the charring and burning on the side of the wood.

AutoCAD Hints[editovat]

  • Set up your AutoCAD page so that it is square (18" x 18") and place all of your objects in the upper portion
  • Set the page orientation to Portrait.
  • Set Plot area to Limits.
  • Scale set to 1:1.
  • Pen Sizes .001 inch (0.0254 mm)
