Many audio applications, such as spatial sound field recording and reproduction, require high-precision, high-throughput synchronous multichannel analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog conversion. This thesis presents a design of a high-performance synchronous multichannel digital-to-analog converter system. The designed system offers 16 synchronous output channels, which can be easily extended to additional input or output channels. The system is based on existing integrated circuits and combines their advantages. The most essential components of the system are PCM1792A sigma-delta DA converters, Altera Cyclone IV FPGA, NXP i.MX6 ARM Cortex-A9 application processor with 1 GB RAM and linear power supply. The amount of storage available on the board provides the capacity to prefetch tracks into the device and play them with low latency.
