Carbon dioxide as a component of indoor air of residential buildings has a dominant influence on the human physical and mental condition. Keeping the carbon dioxide concentration lower than a marginal value is a task of ventilation systems. Excessive air renewal is undesirable in light of the energy balance of the building. The solution is to use a closed loop control system of ventilation based on measuring the current carbon dioxide concentration in the rooms.

This bachelor project involves modelling the production and spread of carbon dioxide in residential buildings, because it is necessary to simulate this contaminant in order to design optimal control of the ventilation system. The factors influencing the carbon dioxide concentration are discussed and the structure of the model enabling reuse of the model blocks for any residential building is composed. The next task to be solved is to design the feedback control ventilation system that uses the information about the carbon dioxide concentration in the inhabited rooms.
